Grappling with the Issues: Ultimate Fight Night 37
Look, I’ve already written about the fact that I think the UFC is making a huge mistake by making an Alexander Gustafsson fight, a Fight Pass fight, but alas, it is done. The key thing we need to happen as MMA fans is for Gustafsson to win, and win decisively. I want to see a rematch between Jones and Gustafsson, and I know I’m not alone. However, the UFC seems to be angling more towards a Jones/Daniel Cormier battle, even though Cormier’s style leaves something to be desired and he hasn’t fought anyone with any credibility in the light heavyweight division. I think Gustafsson wins, and wins handely, so let’s move on to the fight that really has my interest.
Michael Johnson vs. Melvin Guillard . . . This is going to be good. Johnson has made some incredible strides over his last few fights, and can now be considered a complete fighter. Since being Georges St. Pierre’s number one pick on The Ultimate Fighter for his incredible athleticism and wrestling back ground, Johnson has developed striking skills that has all of MMA talking. This is going to be put to the test against the always entertaining, and always bomb throwing Guillard. Is this going to be a slugfest or is Johnson going to rely on his wrestling to neutralize the “Young Assassin?”
It’s co main event on paper, but the real main event in my mind.
This and That . . .

Most people, like myself, believe Saturday’s fight will be a walk in the park for Alexander Gustafsson. One person that doesn’t is Cage Page writer Kristian Ibarra, check out his piece here to see if he is crazy, or the smartest guy in the room.
