Josh Burkman Asks For Release From World Series of Fighting

Recently coming off a 1st round knockout victory over Tyler Stinson at WSOF 9, Josh Burkman has become displeased with the promotion and has asked for his contractual release. Following his bout on Saturday, March 29th, Burkman took to twitter on Thursday voicing his displeasure on twitter.

The 33 year old Burkman (27-10) has competed in 5 of the World Series of Fighting’s 9 events and has achieved a 4-1 record with the promotion–with victories over Gerald Harris, Aaron Simpson, Jon Fitch, and aforementioned Tyler Stinson. However despite the victory on Saturday, WSOF had previously granted the next welterweight title shot to a fighter that Burkman has already defeated, Jon Fitch.

Interesting to note is that Josh Burkman was the only fighter to not receive a win bonus on WSOF 9’s disclosed payouts, pocketing $25,000 base salary for his fight against Stinson. FanSided reports Burkman cited contractual issues as to the reason for his requesting of a release from WSOF.
