UFC Fight Night: Abu Dhabi is all set, with ranked heavyweights Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Roy Nelson squaring off in a five round bout between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts. Both fighters are coming into the fight off loses, making a win equally as important for both fighters. While a loss could spell the end to Nelson’s UFC career, speculation suggests a loss for Nogueira could be the final fight of his entire career, making this an intriguing heavyweight battle.
Nogueira and Nelson are both powerful punchers, but while Nogueira is the more respected on the ground, Nelson is no slouch. Both have a reputation for taking a big punch, but Nogueira has been stopped by punches on two occasions while Nelson is yet to be finished in his career.
In the co main event, Tatsuya Kawajiri squares off with veteran Clay Guida in a crucial featherweight battle between two fighters hoping to make a run at the title in 2014. After Kawajiri made a very impressive debut, he is hoping to catapult himself into title contention with a win over Guida, who is coming into the bout off a loss to Chad Mendes in August.
Elsewhere on the card, prospect Ryan LaFlare hopes to go 4-0 with a win over John Howard, and prospect to watch in 2014, Beneil Dariush, faces TUF winner Ramsey Nijem in the opening bout of the main card. The preliminary card has a number of intriguing battle, highlighted by Thales Leites facing Trevor Smith at middleweight, Jared Rosholt and Daniel Omielanczuk both hope to make it two in a row in the Octagon, and Rani Yahya makes his bantamweight debut against Johnny Bedford.
