Roy Nelson literally walked away with one of the more brutal knockouts of his career, against Antonio Rodrigo “Minatauro” Nogueira in the main event of UFC Fight Night 39 in Abu Dhabi. Nelson had rocked Nogueira twice prior in the first round before a 3rd overhand right would put the lights out on the former PRIDE legend.

With his 7th knockout victory (6th in the first round) in the UFC, Nelson bounced back from back-to-back losses and did not hesitate to request a title fight when put in front of the mic by Dan Hardy post-fight in the cage.
“I want to fight for the belt, let me start from there and we’ll work backwards,” Nelson said.
Despite achieving his trademark over hand right knock out, Roy Nelson had a different game plan in mind coming into the fight, that involved grappling.
“It was a little bit shorter than I thought it would be,” Nelson said.
“Every time I fight I always try to make a statement, I always try to give the fans what they want to see. Since we’re here in Abu Dhabi I wanted to grapple a little bit more, I planned on doing a couple more takedowns. Actually do a takedown, but it didn’t last that long.”
Roy also reiterated during the post-fight press conference that he would like to fight the UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez.
“Dream opponent is always who ever has the belt, so that would be Cain Velasquez,” Nelson said. “And best knockout, they all rank up there the same but any time you can beat up a legend, it makes you that much better.”
However before Nelson can focus on his next fight, he may have some hand issues to deal with.
“A big knockout is definitely a hard hit, so my hands definitely do hurt, need to get it checked out to see where it’s at.”
