Crazy scenes in the main event of RFA 14 Friday night, as challenger Junior Maranhao collapsed on his stool after the fourth round, and the doctor let the fight go! This is sickening to see, as Maranhao is clearly out cold and should not be forced to compete for another five minutes. The doctor came in, checked Maranhao very briefly, and gave the go ahead for the fight to continue into the fifth round.
Maranhao ultimately lost a close split decision against Matt Manzanares for the flyweight title, which handed the Brazilian his first loss in seven. 9-3 Maranhao was a late replacement, and the fight with Manzanares was a big step-up in competition for him. It also marked the first time the Brazilian went the full five round distance.
Many have called for both the doctor and referee to be punished after these events, and several media members and fans took to Twitter to voice their disapproval.

The fact that the Manzaneres/Maranhao fight was allowed to continue is everything that’s wrong with MMA cornermen. Criminal negligence.

Maranhao, a late replacement challenger for an inconsequential vacant belt in a 3rd tier promotion, was thrown to the wolves by his corner.

Everyone that allowed this to continue should lose their license. Shame on you Wyoming athletic commission: http://t.co/7V32UzPsfE

RFA responded with the following Tweet:
We were present with the Wyoming Commission when the doctor completed a neuro-physical on Maranhão. He is good and appreciates the concern.

What are your thoughts on this? Are the cornermen, the doctor or the referee at fault, or are all three at blame?
