5-0 as an amateur, Marina Shafir made her professional MMA debut on Saturday for the Lights Out Promotions, LOP – Chaos at the Casino 4 in Inglewood, California. “The Supernova From Moldova” took on Chandra Engel (0-2), and made quick work of her opponent, winning by first round armbar.
Shafir took down Engel in the opening seconds, and went for the armbar right away, but Engel defended and ended up in the guard of Shafir. However it did not last long from there as Shafir swept her into mount and on the 2nd attempt, was able to secure the armbar for the tap in just under 2 minutes.
Marina Shafir, a good friend and training partner of UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, is going down a similar path as the fellow judoka to begin her career—so far winning all 6 of her fights (amateur and pro) by first round armbar.
