Dana White: I don't want to see Nogueira fight ever again, he should retire

UFC president Dana White reserved his opinion on the career of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira after the former interim UFC heavyweight champion suffered a brutal knockout loss to Roy Nelson in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi. But since Nogueira had came out and said that he still wished to compete in the UFC and wanted a trilogy fight with Frank Mir, Dana White voiced his opinion during the TUF Nations post-fight media scrum.

“As soon as he got knocked out, I was getting blown up by media guys saying ‘what do you want him to do?’, so out of respect for Nogueira, I want didn’t to say anything until he came out and said something publicly,” Dana said. “Then he came out and said he wants to fight Frank Mir. I don’t want to see Nogueira fight ever again, he should retire.”

“He is a warhorse, that guy has been in–just the battles in Pride that he’s been in, let alone the fights that he’s fought in the UFC. He is one of the most respected fighters in the world by other fighters, let alone by fans. And i like him very much too, so I wanted to give him the opportunity to say something first. So now I’m going to say, Big Nog I love you, but I’d love you to never fight again.”

The 37 year old Nogueira has competed in 45 professional MMA bouts, and has suffered 3 knockout losses in the UFC, after possessing one of the best chins in MMA and being notoriously difficult to finish throughout his career earlier in Pride. Given all the wear and tear he has been through, the former Pride heavyweight champion has not had the same amount of success in the UFC as he did in Pride. Minotauro has gone 5-5 in the UFC and losing all 5 of his fights by knockout or submission–and has lost 3 of his last 4 bouts. This after never having been finished in his career previous competing against the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, and Josh Barnett.

The UFC president has made his opinion clear of what he wishes Antoino Rodrigo Nogueira will do with his career, but if Nogueira insists on continuing to compete, Dana White will likely have to have a sit down and talk with him.

“I’ve been in this position a million times, so we’ll figure it out,” Dana said.
