Eddie Alvarez Apologizes for Comments Made About Bellator Interim Title

Eddie Alvarez made certain comments on Ariel Helwani’s show, The MMA Hour Monday afternoon, regarding Bellator’s decision to make an interim-lightweight title fight between Michael Chandler and Will Brooks.

Bellator lightweight champion Alvarez suffered a concussion during wrestling training and as a result was not able to defend his title against Chandler at Bellator 120, in what was supposed to be their trilogy bout.

When asked by Helwani about earlier comments that Michael Chandler made regarding Alvarez asking himself if he should really keep fighting after pulling out of 2 of their 3 previously scheduled bouts.

“It’s laughable,” Alvarez said. “He’s angry because I beat him and I’m the champion, and he has to fight for a sh—y belt that adds up to nothing. He can say whatever he wants to say.”

Tuesday afternoon, Eddie Alvarez has taken to twitter to issue a public apology to Bellator for his comments.
