Highly touted heavyweights Soa Palelei and Jared Rosholt are set to square off at UFC Fight Night 43 in Auckland, New Zealand. The UFC have confirmed the news after initially being reported by The New Zealand Herald.
Palelei has been on a tear since returning to the Octagon in 2013, and – despite a sub-par return against Nikita Krylov – has put himself in contention for a run at the title with subsequent first round wins over Pat Barry and Ruan Potts. To add to the impressiveness of his last two performances, Palelei hardly received any damage at all, getting mount against both Barry and Potts and landing the knockout blows from there. Now 3-0 since returning to the UFC and getting finishes in all three, a win over Rosholt could put Palelei in the heavyweight rankings for the first time in his career.
‘The Hulk’, a favourite in Australia, will face the American Jared Rosholt, who has also impressed since signing with the promotion. ‘The Big Show’ has gone 2-0, and although both wins have come by way of decision, he has showed the wrestling credentials that has led to an impressive 10-1 record as a professional. Now just 27 years of age and on a six fight winning streak, the prospect will look to go 3-0 with a win over Palelei.
UFC Fight Night 43 will be held at Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand on June 28. The card is headlined by a middleweight bout between James Te Huna and Nate Marquardt.
