KSW 27 went down tonight in Gdansk, Poland, with the card headlined by one of the greatest European middleweights Mamed Khalidov taking on UFC and Bellator veteran Maiquel Falcao. Khalidov defeated Falcao via first round armbar, and once again cemented his place as one of the best fighters outside of the UFC. The UFC were in negotiations with the Polish middleweight last year, but were unable to convince the 33 year old to cross the border, stating that KSW were paying more money than UFC were offering.
The win took Khalidov’s win streak to nine, and his overall record as a professional is now 29-4-2 with notable victories over the likes of Melvin Manhoef and Kendall Grove. The former KSW light heavyweight title holder is currently ranked #10 in the world by Sherdog, and the UFC are expected to re-enter negotiations with Khalidov after his latest victory.
In the co-main event, former World’s Strongest Man winner Mariusz Pudzianowski outlasted former Britain’s Strongest Man winner Oli Thompson, winning a unanimous decision and taking his winning streak to two. ‘Pudzian’ is now 7-3 (1 NC), with all three of his losses coming by way of submission. Thompson, meanwhile, has lost two in a row and this latest defeat takes his record to 3-3 since leaving the UFC in 2012.
