Substance Cage Combat returns 11 months after their inaugural event, and is set to hold their 2nd event, Substance Cage Combat 2.0 on May 30th in Toronto at the Herbert H Carnegie Centennial Center. The local Ontario MMA promotion, run by CEO Neil Forester, will be showcasing some of Canada’s top and upcoming MMA talent—specifically those in the province of Ontario.
The main event of SCC 2.0 is a fight between two top Canadian lightweights, Alex Ricci (7-2) and Jason Saggo (9-1). Ricci headlined the first SCC event in June of 2013, winning a unanimous decision over Luis Felix. The former Muay Thai kickboxer last suffered a split decision loss to Ryan Healy in March. While his opponent, Jason Saggo is on a 4-fight win streak and has finished all 9 of his victories, including 8 submissions. Both fighters have suffered a loss to a common opponent in UFC lightweight Jesse Ronson.
In the co-main event, former Canadian Olympic wrestler, Ainsley Robinson (5-2) will take on the undefeated Kyle Nelson (5-0) in the featherweight division. Robinson last competed in 2012 for Bellator, losing a unanimous decision to eventual TUF Nations winner, Chad Laprise. The 42 year old started his MMA career in 2008 with 4 straight wins—3 by TKO, before suffering his first loss followed by a 4-year hiatus from the sport. He will be facing a fighter 19 years younger in Kyle “The Monster” Nelson, who competed on the inaugural SCC event–defeating Neelan Hordatt-Reece via split decision.
Also on the card will be light heavyweight Todd Stoute (5-1), who suffered his first career loss at SCC 1.0—losing a decision to current TUF 19 competitor, Patrick Walsh. He will take on American Jeremy Osheim (4-0). Both fighters have a combined 8 finishes in their 9 career victories.
A matchup of undefeated featherweights Michael Karkula (6-0) vs. Mike Mallot. And top Canadian flyweight, Adrian “The Bully” Woolley returns to action for the first time since 2011, he looks to snap a 2-fight losing streak.
The rest of the card is filled with the local MMA talent around the province of Ontario.
