Charmaine Tweet, Kaiyana Rain, Brenda Gonzalez to fight in NCB event

In addition to Maureen “Babyface” Riordon, two familiar faces to women’s mixed martial arts will compete at the Aug. 15 Nordic Coliseum Boxing event, in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.

The first is Canadian combat sports star Charmaine “Not So Sweet” Tweet, who faces Annie Mazerolle in a super welterweight bout. Tweet is coming off a first-round submission win over Anna Barone. While her five submission wins may not reflect her striking in the cage, the Not So Sweet fighter is also a former Muay Thai and kickboxing champion. Her opponent Mazerolle has some professional experience in the ring.

Another Invicta FC veteran competing at the event is Kaiyana Rain, who will fight Jacqueline Park in her pro debut. Although Park currently has a 3-1 record, Rain’s experience in MMA and kickboxing will be an asset to her in the fight. She currently trains with Rafael Cordeiro, who is one of the best striking coaches in combat sports.

The third is Brenda “Boom Boom” Gonzales, who squares off against Lucia Osegueda in a lightweight match. Boom Boom is 4-1 in mixed martial arts and 2-1 in boxing. Osegueda comes into the fight with a 2-0 record, which could change as she is scheduled to face Latravia Pierce this weekend.

It’s great to see all three of these fighters make the transition to boxing. Although MMA fans believe that boxing is “dying” promotions like Nordic Coliseum Boxing is trying to bring awareness in a sport that may be as popular as it once was, but is still exciting. It also gives female boxers – whether it’s veterans of the sport or hopeful prospects – a chance to display their skill set to a large audience.

Here is the fight card. Bouts are subject to change. The event will stream live on GoFightLive.tv.
