Marcus Brimage will make his long awaited bantamweight debut at UFC 175 against Russell Doane, with the event going down on July 5 at Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas, NV. Brimage will fight for the first time since a loss to Conor McGregor in April 2013, while Doane made a successful debut in January.
Marcus Brimage appeared on The Ultimate Fighter 14 as a member of Team Bisping, losing to current #14 ranked Bryan Caraway in the quarter finals. Brimage went 3-0 in his first three official Octagon appearances, and quietly made a statement during this stint with wins over Jimy Hettes and Maximo Blanco. He was then pitted against Conor McGregor, a far bigger featherweight who is now ranked #13 in the division and a big draw in the UFC, and ever since that loss, little news has come from Brimage.
‘The Bama Beast’ announced he would be dropping down to bantamweight after the McGregor loss, citing his 5’4″ frame as one of the main reasons. At 29, Brimage still has many years in him to reach his potential, and his first three UFC performances shows he is more than capable of doing so. He will face Russell Doane in his bantamweight debut, and will look to make a statement during the fight.
Russell Doane earned a call-up to the UFC after defeating former UFC alumni Jared Papazian via KO, and he showed he belongs inside the Octagon in his debut. Defeating Leandro Issa via submission in the second round, Doane will look to make it 2-0 with a win over Brimage, but that is no easy feat. The Hawaii native comes into the fight with Brimage with an impressive 13-3 record, with four wins in his last five fights.
UFC 175 is headlined by the UFC middleweight title bout between champion Chris Weidman and top contender Lyoto Machida, with Ronda Rousey also putting her UFC women’s bantamweight title on the line against Alexis Davis. The event will be hosted at Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas, NV on July 5.
