Jon Jones: “It’s my career, not yours”

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones responded after news surfaced yesterday from the UFC and president Dana White saying that Jones has not signed the bout agreement for a rematch against #1 contender Alexander Gustafsson and that Jones has asked for a fight against the undefeated Daniel Cormier instead.

“Just to clear up a couple things, people think we’re in contract negotiations with Jon Jones – we’re not. Jon Jones still has five fights left on his contract,” White said Monday afternoon in an exclusive interview with UFC.com. “So what we’re doing right now is trying to get him to sign the bout agreement for Gustafsson. He doesn’t want to fight Gustafsson. … Lorenzo and I have a meeting with Jones on Thursday to get him to sign the bout agreement, and he’s asking to fight Cormier instead.”

This was met with ample criticism by MMA fans, leading to Jones responding today, the way he has done many times in the past, by posting an instagram video and deleting it moments later. Luckily fans have caught on to his habits and have began to save the video before he has a chance to delete them.

In the 15 second video, Jones tells his critics, “Asking for an undefeated Olympic wrestler, Strikeforce champion, makes me somehow a coward? How about the fact that I beat Gustafsson already, whether you guys like how close it was or not. It’s my career, not yours.”
