As Invicta Fighting Championships gets ready to move into their partnership with UFC Fight Pass, the promotion have now announced a main event caliber title match ready for an upcoming event.
According to a report from MMAFighting.com, current Invicta FC title holder Cris “Cyborg” Justino will defend her title against Ediane “India” Gomes. Both fighters confirmed the title tilt, as did Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp.
This bout has been brewing ever since the Cyborg made her debut for Invicta back in 2013. She was originally supposed to face Gomes at Invicta FC 5, only for ‘India’ to pull out of the match due to injury.
Justino has gone unbeaten in her last 13 fights with 1 NC, while Gomes is riding a four-fight winning streak.
Although Gomes is likely to come in as the underdog due to Cyborg’s dominance in recent years, though no-one is unbeatable, as fans saw in the recent Renan Barao vs. TJ Dillashaw bout.
Both Justino and Gomes have also confirmed that they want drop to 135 pounds in the future. Personally, I’m hoping that both fighters choose to go back and forth between bantamweight and featherweight, mostly because the 145-pound weight class needs the star power – or at least a champion.
Now that the Cyborg vs. Gomes fight is confirmed, all it needs is a time and a place.
