Friday Flashback: Benson Henderson vs. Frankie Edgar

Today’s Friday Flashback features Benson Henderson facing Frankie Edgar for the UFC Lightweight championship at UFC 144. This fight is special, not only because it’s a title match, but also because it’s the main event of the first UFC show held in the Land of the Rising Sun in several years.

At this point Edgar had come off of his trilogy against Gray Maynard while Henderson was slowly climbing up the UFC ranks. Henderson was the former WEC Lightweight champion and would have gotten an immediate title shot, had he not lost to Anthony Pettis at WEC 53. Still the “Smooth” one managed to bounce back from defeat and got the opportunity to live his dream.

All I will say is that this is a pretty close contest that had fans talking for months, mostly because of the finish.

Henderson will face Rustam Khabilov in the main event of tomorrow night’s UFC Fight Night. Meanwhile Edgar will complete another trilogy when he faces B.J Penn at “The Ultimate Fighter 19“ finale in July.
