The brand new series STATIC launched last week produced by Jay-Z, released their 2nd episode this week that features the feud that never came to fruition. The rivalry between Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Nick Diaz had its own long buildup started by the infamous Strikeforce brawl on CBS in 2010, but unfortunate due to circumstances, never got the payoff and the settlement inside the cage that it deserved.
Chaos ensued following the main event of Strikeforce: Nashville on April 17, 2010—that saw Jake Shields defeat Dan Henderson to capture the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship. It all started by Jason Miller stepping into the cage during Shields’ post-fight interview and interrupting him, asking for a rematch.
“Jake, where’s my rematch buddy?”, the words uttered by Jason Miller that set off a chain of events forever etched into MMA’s history. Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu teammate and friend of Jake Shields, Nick Diaz stepped in and sucker punched Miller with the cameras still running, this ensued a huge brawl with everyone jumping in to attack Jason “Mayhem” Miller. What ensued was months of the two fighters going back and fourth through interviews, videos, and social media to challenge each other to a fight, which never came to be.
In the episode, both Jason Miller and Nick Diaz weigh-in on the whole situation leading up to the Strikeforce brawl and the fallout from the incident. Fighters Michael Bisping, Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, and Dominick Cruz also voice their opinions on the whole rivalry between the two fighters.
The debut episode of the STATIC series kicked off with arguably the biggest rivalry in MMA, between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.
