Legacy FC 31 took place on Friday, June 13th at the Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas. The event airing on AXS TV saw Bubba Bush (8-2) defend his middleweight championship in the main event against the previously unbeatened Alfonso Gonzales (5-1), making his Legacy Fighting Championship debut.
Bubba Bush wasted no time getting the fight to the mat, utilizing a trip takedown and instaneously transitioned into mount on Alfonso Gonzales. From there, Bush delivered 2 minutes of ground and pound before searching for the finish. First attempting an arm-triangle choke, defended by Gonzales, forcing Bush to switch to a guillotine attempt, which was also defended.
The finish came as Bubba Bush abandoned the guillotine attempt, and took the back of Gonzalez, flattening him out and securing the rear naked choke in the final minute of round 1. A successful defense of his Legacy FC Middleweight title.
In the co-main event, long-time veteran Damacio Page (18-9) dropped down to flyweight for the first time in his 27-fight career to face Elias Garcia (4-2), who was coming his first career loss–to Henry Cejudo. Page was able to physically impose his will on the smaller, Elias Garcia throughout the fight. Page’s smothering top game did not allow for Garcia to generate any offense in the first 2 rounds. After just being unable to submit Garcia in the opening minutes with a deep triangle choke attempt, Garcia used takedowns to grind out the first two rounds.
Damacio Page put Elias Garcia away in the 3rd, transition from mount into an arm-triangle choke to secure the victory, his third straight in Legacy FC.
Diego da Silva (5-2) defeated Alex Morono (6-2) by a questionable TKO stoppage in the first round. Both fighters came out very aggressive looking to establish their striking. Da Silva and Morono both threw the straight right hand at the exact same time, with Da Silva landing his clean on the chin of Morono that caused him to go down. As Alex Morono tried to grab Da Silva’s leg for a takedown, he was eating punches to the side of the head, forcing the referee to stop the fight. Morono quickly popped up to protest the stoppage, but it was too late.
Justin Reiswerg (7-3) handed Jared Chaffee (3-1) his first career loss, by way of doctor stoppage at the start of the 2nd round due to a cut. Reiswerg was all over Chaffee from the opening bell, getting the fight to the ground and came close to locking in a triangle choke. Instead Chaffee used a takedown to gain top position and reign down ground and pound to open up a gash on the left eyebrow of Chaffee–which ultimately led to the fight being stopped.
Featherweight Alex Black (7-3) extended his win streak to 6 straight, defeating Eric Valdez (3-2) by a surprising split decision. The majority of the fight was spent in the clinch against the cage, with the taller and lankier Black controlling the fight. Black would attempt to secure a 5th straight submision, but Valdez defended guillotine and rear naked choke attempts.
Charlie Ontiveros (5-2) won a closely contested stand up battle, defeating veteran Artenas Young (10-8) by unanimous decision. Ontiveros’ aggression and unpredictability in the striking department earned him the decision.
