Ayaka Hamasaki to return to Japan

One of MMA’s top champions from the Land of the Rising Sun will be making her return later this summer.

DEEP Jewels announced that they would be holding an event in August. One of the competitors on the card will be Jewels Lightweight Queen champion and Invicta FC veteran Ayaka Hamasaki, who will be fighting in her home country of Japan for the first time since December 2012 where she successfully defended her title against Emi Fujuno via decision.

Hamasaki has been out of action for the last year. She competed in July 2013 against Claudia Gadelha in a strawweight title eliminator bout at Invicta FC 6. The Brazilian fighter finished Hamasaki late in the third round. It was the first loss in the Japanese fighter’s career.

It will be great to see Hamasaki return to Japan and compete in front of a home crowd. She certainly took a risk in coming to fight in the United States. However, she did earn some success in the Invicta FC cage. She submitted Lacey Schuckman at Invicta FC 2.

If Hamasaki can pick up a victory in her next fight, she could open more doors and possibly return to fight in the United States. We might even see her in the UFC after they get their strawweight division going.
