“The New York Bad Ass” Phil Baroni will be set to make his Bellator debut on July 25th in Temecula, California, as he takes on another veteran welterweight in Karo Parysian at Bellator 122. The fight will be part of the Spike TV main card broadcast in an event headlined by the Season 10 Middleweight tournament final Brett Cooper vs Brandon Halsey.
Phil Baroni (15-17), veteran of UFC, Pride, Strikeforce, and most recently, ONE FC, has been competing in mixed martial arts since 2000, and although his record may not show it, he has been one of the most entertaining characters in the sport both in and outside the cage. Baroni comes into this fight having lost his last fights in ONE FC–a first round TKO to Nobutatsu Suzuki. The 38 year old has come out on the losing end in 4 of his last 5 bouts, with his last victory coming against Rodrigo Ribeiro via 1st round TKO at ONE FC 5 in 2012.
Baroni’s opponent, Karo Parisyan (23-10) has also bounced around the MMA scene since his release from the UFC in 2010. The 31 year old went 4-4 since that time, with all 4 of his losses coming against well known welterweights outside of the big promotion (Ryan Ford, Jordan Smith, John Gunderson, and Rick Hawn). Parisyan made his debut for Bellator in 2013, losing by knockout to Hawn at Bellator 95. “The Heat” has since bounced back, achieving the first knockout victory of his career against Ron Keslar at Bellator 116.
