Just days after both being victorious at UFC 174, the UFC have announced that light heavyweights Ryan Bader and Ovince St. Preux will square off in the main event of UFC Fight Night 47. The card will be held on August 16 at Cross Insurance Centre in Bangor, Maine, and joins three other announced bouts for the UFC’s debut in the state.
Ryan Bader defeated former Strikeforce Rafael Feijao on the aforementioned 174 card, going the distance in a performance which showed his wrestling prowess. After going 4-4, Bader has since racked together a two fight winning streak, earning him the #8 ranking in the division. Bader was close to title contention after going 5-0 in the start of his Octagon run, but losses to Jones, Machida, Ortiz and Teixeira nixed his title shot plans.
With dominant wins over Anthony Perosh and Rafael Feijao, ‘Darth’ will look to continue his progress with a crucial win over Ovince St. Preux.
St. Preux has gone 4-0 since joining the UFC in 2012, and has progressed massively since his days at Strikeforce. The run has earned him a place in the top 10 of the light heavyweight division, and just one or two more wins could be enough to see St. Preux fighting for the 205lbs title. With finishes in all four of his UFC victories, St. Preux has been one of the most surprising imports from Strikeforce, and will headline his first card under the UFC banner.
With St. Preux looking to win his sixth bout in a row, and fifth Octagon appearance, a win over Bader will be the most impressive of his MMA career.
The bout joins a host of interesting fights already announced for the card, including a middleweight bout between Tim Boetsch and Brad Tavares, and fellow middleweights Tom Watson and Sam Alvey, with heavyweights Jack May and Shawn Jordan also set to square off.
