Gene LeBell reflects on mentoring Ronda Rousey

Gene LeBell is one of the most well-known in figures in martial arts and has taught some of the most famous fighters around, including current UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Chuck Norris.

UFC on FOX published a quick video of LeBell – also known as Uncle Gene – and his thoughts on Rousey. It also briefly shows the Judo legend with his wife Midge before Rousey’s match with Sara McMann at UFC 170. It’s adorable in a way. One side of LeBell is this badass ruthless trainer and on the other is a sweet man who loves his students like family.

In addition to being judo master, LeBell was also a stunt man and – believe or not – a professional wrestler and has won a few regional championships.

If you’ve got a few minutes to spare, I recommend watching this video.
