With the UFC days away from revealing women’s strawweights competing on “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Pettis vs. Team Melendez” the promotion may want to keep an eye on Kaitlyn Chookagian down the road.
The fighter from Jersey City scored her first professional win this last weekend after she scored a decision win over Rebecca “The Professor” Heintzman, June 28, at CFFC 37 Anyanwu vs. Bell.
Despite facing an opponent who already had two fights under her belt, Chookagian picked up the decision win.
Prior to making the jump to pro, Chookagian went 7-0 as an amateur, finishing five of her seven bouts. Some of her more notable opponents include Gina “Jellybean” Begley, and Andrea “KGB” Lee. In her first fight, she submitted Barbara Bowman in 33 seconds with an armbar. She has also held amateur titles in NAAFS Ascend Combat and and XCC.
Chookagian currently trains at Allstar BJJ/Team Renzo Gracie. Renzo Gracie has trained several world champions, including Georges St-Pierre, Matt Serra and Chris Weidman. She also trains in karate and has good striking.
With a couple of more impressive victories under her belt, I’m sure we’ll see Chookagian step into the octagon at some point in the future.
