UFC 175 kicked off the way it intends to continue, with former RFA champion Kevin Casey returned to the Octagon with an impressive stoppage win against Bubba Bush. Casey dropped Bush after the former Legacy title holder came in recklessly, and took a patient approach on the ground, opening Bush up with elbows and continuing to utilise that technique until the referee was forced to step in.
Also on the Fight Pass portion was a unanimous decision win for Luke Zachrich, who returned from a short notice loss in his UFC debut after just 44 seconds, over Brazilian UFC debutant Guilherme Vasconcelos. Zachrich showed his capabilities with a full training camp and his movement, jabs and kicks were his keys to victory. Winning all three rounds, the American was teary upon the announcement of his win, and looked good worth for his first Octagon win.
Opening up the FOX Sports 1 preliminary card was an impressive UFC debut from 11-1 Rob Font, who knocked out respected bantamweight and the tallest fighter at 135lbs George Roop. The loss is Roop’s second brutal KO loss in a row, and Font utilised great speed and movement to land a big overhand right which rocked Roop and the rest was history. It was just one punch that concluded the fight, and Font said that the pressure of fighting in the UFC never got to him.
Chris Camozzi was handed his third loss in a row after powerful middleweight Bruno Santos won the last two rounds en route to a split decision victory. After Camozzi looked good on the feet in the first round, Santos decided to get the fight to the ground in both the second and third, and landed multiple takedowns. However, the Brazilian was unable to do much from that position, instead cruising to what looked like a unanimous victory. One judge disagreed, but Santos ultimately got the win.
Kenny Robertson won his second UFC win a row for the first time, improving his Octagon run to 3-3 with a unanimous decision over Ildemar Alcantara. One round was even scored 10-8 in Robertson’s favour, who took his opponent down on numerous occasions and landed a series of big shots en route to a clear cut decision win. Robertson continues to show improvements, and will look to make a step-up after a win over Alcantara.
