Two top featherweights have been added to the stacked UFC Fight Night 50 card, as Charles Oliveira will rematch with former foe Nik Lentz. The pair first met in June 2011 in a lightweight contest, with the fight ending in a No Contest due to an illegal knee by Oliveira – who was originally awarded the win via rear naked choke.
Since that fight, both fighters have dropped down to 145lbs and had some success in their new weight class. While Oliveira has gone 4-3 in his last seven, going 3-3 as a featherweight, Lentz lost two in a row before going 4-1 as a featherweight. Therefore both fighters, though in different ways, have gone 4-3 since meeting back at UFC on Versus 4.
Charles Oliveira has bounced back from a two fight losing streak with consecutive wins over Andy Ogle and Hatsu Hioki, defeating both opponents via submission. In both outings, Oliveira has won the Performance of the Night bonus, with his submission win over Hioki being one of his most impressive of his UFC career. In a back-and-forth battle against the former featherweight contender, Oliveira was able to sink in a modified guillotine choke to grab the victory, taking his UFC record to 6-4 (1 NC).
Nik Lentz has impressed since dropping to featherweight, entering his new division by winning three in a row which led to a title eliminator bout with Chad Mendes. Though Lentz was ultimately on the losing end of a division, he has since bounced back and proved that he can make another run towards the top. Now ranked #9 in a stacked division, he meets ranked #14 Oliveira in the hope that he will be able to start another impressive winning streak.
UFC Fight Night 50 is headlined by a five-round middleweight bout between Gegard Mousasi and Jacare Souza, in a rematch of their contest at Dream 6 in September 2008.
