After champion Jose Aldo was forced out of his title defence against Chad Mendes at UFC 176 which subsequently forced the event’s postponement, the pair have exchanged words which have made fans await the rematch even more eagerly.
Earlier this week, Aldo – in a statement to Brazilian media outlet Combate (h/t MMAFighting) – labelled Mendes a ‘pu–y’, in response to ‘Money’s’ appearance on the MMA Hour. While speaking with Ariel Helwani, Mendes stated that Aldo “can’t run forever,” which angered the champion, who is currently on the sidelines nursing a shoulder injury.
“Maybe I have so many injuries because I’m not taking the same ‘supplements’ you take,” Aldo wrote.
The featherweight champion, currently unbeaten inside the Octagon, went on to remind Mendes of their first encounter and asked the challenger to ‘prescribe one of your supplements.’
“I have injuries because I train a lot to beat you like I did last time, and I think you remember that and still have nightmares about it. I did all the medical exams I had to do, but if you’re a doctor now, I can send them so you can take a look. Maybe you can prescript one of your supplements so I can heal faster.”
Mendes had also claimed that he would be disappointed if the rematch with Aldo is moved to the champ’s home country of Brazil, as their first encounter had been in Aldo’s home territory. This once again angered the champion, who had this to say.
“The one who gets beat up usually runs away from another beating, but you can’t run forever because I’m going after you. Before the cage is closed you can say whatever you want, because once they close it you won’t be able to open your mouth, so keep talking while you have a mouth. And who are you to say where we are going to fight? I don’t think Dana White would be happy to see someone making his decisions.”
Jose Aldo was evidently upset by the comments on Chad Mendes in his appearance on the MMA Hour, and hit out with a number of accusations. In response, Mendes sent out an Instagram post to deny any PED use, with the caption:
Supplement deez nuts @josealdojr while ur at home restin that neck I’m out busting my ass at the stadium. No substitute 4 hard work! Kiss that belt goodbye! #newchamp
One thing is for sure: this rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes has a new leash of life, and I cannot wait to see how it plays out inside the Octagon.
