Three bouts added to UFC Fight Night 50 in Connecticut

Three bouts have been added to the UFC Fight Night 50 card held at Foxwoods Revel Casino in Ledyard, CT, which is headlined by a middleweight contest between Jacare Souza and Gegard Mousasi.

In the heavyweight division, highly touted Derrick Lewis will look to go 3-0 in the UFC with a win over Matt Mitrione. Lewis, a former Legacy FC champion, has an 11-2 (1 NC) record as a professional and has impressed since signing with the UFC, winning both of his bouts in the first round. After defeating Guto Innocente, a teammate of Mitrione’s, in July, he is hoping for his highest profile win inside the Octagon when he faces the former TUF competitor.

Matt Mitrione’s MMA career has been contested inside the Octagon, a feat which he shares with Amir Sadollah as the only active fighter to do so. Though a 7-3 record in the UFC is impressive, he had lost three of his last four coming into his make-or-break fight with Shawn Jordan. In an entertaining battle, Mitrione got the upper hand and won the fight in the closing stages of the first round, putting himself back on track in the heavyweight division.

Chris Camozzi will look to halt his three fight losing skid when facing the Brazilian Rafael Natal in a must-win bout for both fighters. The two middleweights have had their share of success in the Octagon, with Camozzi winning four in a row before his current skid, and Natal five in six before losses to Tim Kennedy and Ed Herman.

Camozzi lost his last outing against Bruno Santos in July, and his UFC record now stands at 4-4. A loss to Natal will likely result in the Colorado native getting cut, with ‘Sapo’ also in need of a victory. Natal has lost his last two, and his Octagon record now stands at 5-4-1. Formerly on the brink of top 10 status, Natal was knocked out by Tim Kennedy in devastating fashion before his decision loss to Herman, and will hope to avoid the dreading three-in-a-row with a win over Chris Camozzi.

Bantamweight prospects Chris Beal and Rob Font are set to square off on the card, with both coming off highlight reel knockouts in their last Octagon outings. Chris Beal finished Patrick Williams with an incredible flying knee which many have touted a contender for Knockout of the Year, while Rob Font defeated respected 135-pounder George Roop via first round knockout in July.

Beal, a former TUF competitor, is unbeaten as a professional, while Font has lost just once in his 12-fight career. With both fighters looking make their mark with their second UFC victories, this should be a fun fight between two bantamweights with serious knockout power.

UFC Fight Night 50 is headlined by the middleweight rematch between Jacare Souza and Gegard Mousasi, and will be held at Foxwoods Revel Casino in Ledyard, CO on September 5.
