Bellator 123 has two new additions to their main card airing on Spike TV on September 5th. A heavyweight matchup between Cheick Kongo and Lavar Johnson. And a light heavyweight fight between King Mo Lawal and Tom DeBlass.

Cheick Kongo (21-9-2) won the Season 9 heavyweight tournament by defeating Mark Goodbeer and Peter Graham in his first two fights inside Bellator. But feel short to the current heavyweight champion, Vitaly Minakov in the title fight–losing a unanimous decision. Kongo knocked out Eric Smith in his last bout, at the Bellator 120 PPV. Kongo joined Bellator after being released by the UFC following a successful 8-year stint in the Octagon.

Lavar Johnson (18-9), also a former UFC heavyweight, made his Bellator debut in the Season 10 heavyweight tournament. “Big” Johnson TKO’ed Ryan Martinez in the quarterfinal, but lost to Blagoi Ivanov by submission in the semifinal. Johnson has a 100% finish rate, with 16 knockouts and has only been to a decision once in his career.

“King Mo” Muhammed Lawal (12-4, 1 NC) has had his ups and downs since joining Bellator in 2013. The former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion competed in 3 different light heavyweight tournaments and won the 2013 summer series. Lawal has gone 4-3 in the promotion, with two losses to current Bellator light heavyweight champion Emanuel Newton, and a recent controversial loss to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the headliner of the Bellator 120 PPV.

Tom DeBlass (9-2) is 2-0 inside Bellator, defeating Carlos Brooks and Jason Lambert–both by knockout. The Ricardo Almeida BJJ black belt, joined Bellator in 2013 following an unsuccessful short stint inside the UFC, going 0-2.

Bellator 123 is headlined by a featherweight title rematch between champion Pat Curran and season 9 tournament winner, Patricio “Pitbull” Freire. Rounding out the main card will be the debut of TNA world heavyweight champion, Bobby Lashley against Josh Burns.

Bellator 123 will be on at the same time and in the same state as UFC Fight Night 50. Bellator goes down at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. While UFC Fight Night 50 takes place at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut.

Bellator 123 Fight Card:

  • Featherweight title: Pat Curran vs. Patricio Freire
  • Cheick Kongo vs. Lavar Johnson
  • King Mo Lawal vs. Tom DeBlass
  • Bobby Lashley vs. Josh Burns
