The undefeated pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather was asked by the media today during his press tour to promote the upcoming rematch against Marcos Maidana on September 13th, about UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
The question was brought up when talking about fighters ‘hitting the lottery’ by getting a chance to fight Floyd Mayweather on PPV.
“What about Ronda Rousey,” a reporter asked.
To which, “Money” Mayweather replied with “I don’t even know who he is”.
A few months prior the talk of a fantasy matchup between the #1 Pound-For-Pound boxer in the world and Ronda Rousey was sprung up by UFC President Dana White, who had said that Rousey would beat Floyd in a street fight.
“You take a street fight, Ronda wins that fight and hurts him badly,” White said. “You don an MMA fight, same result. Boxing match? Floyd Mayweather chews her up.”
This led to various outlets such as ESPN, running with the idea and sparking a big debate amongst the sporting world. But apparently Floyd Mayweather has never heard of the UFC’s #1 female fighter or any of those discussions.
Dana White also gave his thoughts on Mayweather’s comments today, in a statement released by ufc.com, saying “What’s Floyd going to say? That’s a lose-lose situation for Floyd,” White said. “For him to even acknowledge that he knows who Ronda is, and that she could possibly beat him in a fight, ya know, that’s what I’d expect him to say.”
