Bellator has added a second explosive and exciting kickboxer to their roster, in the form of long-time Pride and Strikeforce veteran, Melvin Manhoef (28-11-1, 1 NC). As Bellator CEO Scott Coker is bringing along a couple of his friends to join him in his new promotion.
The 38 year old Dutch heavyweight kickboxer has competed against the best in the world in K-1, and has an equally impressive resume of opponents in MMA–scoring 26 knockouts in his 28 career victories. Manhoef’s most impressive wins include a knockout of heavyweight Mark Hunt, and the legendary Kazushi Sakuaba.
Now a middleweight in MMA, Manhoef last competed in April, defeating Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos in just 46 seconds by TKO, at the Gringo Super Fight 10 in Brazil.
Before he makes his Bellator debut, Melvin Manhoef currently has a couple of kickboxing bouts lined up in July and October of 2014.
Alongside Manhoef, is the returning British welterweight Paul Daley, the two former Strikeforce veterans have been signed to Bellator.
Scott Coker, a former kickboxing–turned MMA promoter, has his focus on the entertainment value going forward with the promotion, as evident by his recent signings.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We want Bellator to be a destination for not only the top-tier fighters in the sport, but the first-choice destination for fans to see the most entertaining fights in the sport,” Coker said in a Bellator press release. “Both Paul and Melvin add a level of excitement to the roster that I can’t wait to see inside our cage, and this is just the beginning.”
