Paul Daley (34-13-2) will be returning to Bellator by the end of the year, to join his former promoter in Strikeforce, and now new Bellator CEO, Scott Coker.
“Semtex” appeared on The MMA Hour on Monday to break the news to Ariel Helwani. The former UFC welterweight has been making the rounds internationally in Europe fighting for various promotions including BAMMA. He is set to return to North America sometime late in 2014.
A huge part of Paul Daley’s decision to return to Bellator was due to his relationship with the former Strikeforce promoter, Coker, who Daley said got into contact with him recently.
Paul Daley’s lone appearance in Bellator came at Bellator 72 in 2012, knocking out Rudy Bears in the first round. Daley was eventually released by the promotion due to legal issues, involving an assault case and his inability to acquire a visa to fight in the states.
Paul Daley already has his sights set on becoming the first European champion in a major promotion, in order to so, he has to win a couple fights inside Bellator—whether in tournament fights or non-tournament fights is not known—to eventually face current welterweight champion, Douglas Lima.
The 31 year old British welterweight, Daley currently has a fight coming up in BAMMA against, but following that, he will be exclusive to Bellator as per his new contract. And is set to return to fight in America.
“Semtex is back! Coming to America, like Eddie Murphy,” Daley said on The MMA Hour.
