Ever since Dana White announced that undefeated prospect Holly Holm signed with the UFC, there has been speculation on who she would face. One fighter who’s thrown her name in the hat is Jessica “Evil” Eye.
The Evil one published a video saying that while she did not call out Holm, she would be happy to welcome her to the UFC.
Holm isn’t expected to return to action until late fall. Eye is coming off a close split-decision loss against Alexis Davis earlier this year. The Evil one is still looking for her first official UFC win. She had initially won her fight against Sarah Kaufman back in October 2013, however the victory was overturned by the Texas State Athletic Commission after Eye failed a post-fight drug test.
I think Eye would be a good test for Holm’s first foray inside of the octagon. While “The Preacher’s Daughter” may have the advantage when it comes to striking, Although Holm is undefeated, she hasn’t quite faced an opponent at the level of Eye or the other female 135-pound fighters in the UFC. Eye’s grappling skills and durability would be a good test the newcomer, who could get some grappling training in as soon as her injury heals.
I’m glad the UFC is taking the approach that Holm has to at least get one win under her belt before challenging for the title. Typically they to match new fighters who come in with a lot of hype against someone who is in the middle of the pack.
Although Holm hasn’t fought in the UFC, a win over The Preacher’s Daughter would give Eye some momentum going into the next year and get her back on the winning track. Personally I’d like to see Eye rematch both Kaufman and Davis down the road.
