UFC on FOX 12 results: Brian Ortega gets quick submission

Brian Ortega continued his unbeaten start to his MMA career with a quick submission over Mike De La Torre at UFC on FOX 12. After getting De La Torre’s back, Ortega was diligent and was able to finish the choke while De La Torre was standing. In the process, Ortega has won his UFC debut and improves to 9-0, showing why he is such a hyped prospect.

Just 23 and with such an impressive UFC debut, the future looks bright for the 155-pounder. After De La Torre lost a split decision to a wily veteran in Mike Bocek, he looked like a tough test for Ortega, though the prospect did not treat him like a tough test. Ortega has now finished 5 of his 9 wins via submission, including four inside the first round.

Here is how the fight played out.

Round 1 – Ortega gets the back in the clinch and drags De La Torre to the mat. He works his way up, then Ortega drags him back down, but De La Torre once again up. Ortega still has the back and has the arm underneath the chin. It’s on the chin but De La Torre’s in a lot of trouble. He taps! Big win for Ortega early on in the first.

Result: Ortega via submission (rear naked choke) at 1:39 in first round.

What a debut for Brian Ortega, defeating De La Torre, who looked great in his debut. He remains undefeated with a quick win.
