Newly crowned WSOF Middleweight champion, David Branch (14-3) will defend his title for the first time against Yushin Okami (30-8) at WSOF 15. on October 24th. WSOF President Ray Sefo announced the news Tuesday during a conference call for WSOF 12, which takes place next Saturday.
David Branch’s title win came as the culmination of a 4-man middleweight tournament–which he defeated Danillo Villefort in the semi-finals at WSOF 5. Branch followed up that win by submitting fellow finalist Jesse Taylor in the first round at WSOF 10 to capture the inaugural WSOF championship. The former UFC veteran has won all four of his bouts inside the World Series of Fighting, all against formidable opponents.
Yushin Okami, still considered by many a top 10 middleweight in MMA, successfully won his debut at WSOF 9 by defeating Svetlozar Savov via 2nd round submission—to earn this shot at the champion. A former UFC middleweight title challenger, Okami competed for 8-years under the UFC banner before being released in 2013 following a loss to Ronaldo Souza.
