Fresh off wins at UFC on FOX 12 over Josh Thomson and Daron Cruickshank respectively, former Strikeforce contenders Bobby Green and Jorge Masvidal are set to square off at UFC 178 this September. Both fighters have impressed since joining the UFC ranks, with Green winning his first four bouts, and Masivdal going 4-1.

While not doing so in definitive fashion, Bobby Green defeated his highest profile opponent earlier this month with a split decision over former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson. While the fight was close, Green proved that he is capable to hang with the best in the division, and was ultimately rewarded for his perseverance by getting the judges’ nod.

Bobby Green was the aggressor for much of the fight, taunting Thomson throughout while ‘The Punk’ tried to counter punch. ‘King’ also mixed it up with more than one takedown attempt, and put in an impressive performance despite coming into the fight off short notice. Winner of eight straight, including his first four UFC bouts, Green now looks to continue that run with a win over #14 ranked Masvidal in September.

Jorge Masvidal had to overcome adversity in his decision win over Daron Cruickshank, after getting knocked down with a huge head kick in the first round and coming back to winning the last two in the round. Masvidal showed tremendous recovery by not only going the distance after a devastating knockdown, but getting the victory in the process.

Masvidal looked all-but-out after Cruickshank’s signature weapon caught him, but absorbed the damage to win his fourth UFC fight in five attempts. ‘Gamebred’s’ sole loss came against highly touted Rustam Khabilov in a closely contested fight, and the former Strikeforce contender has beaten the likes of Pat Healy and Michael Chiesa in an impressive UFC streak. If he can get past the #7 ranked Bobby Green, a place in the top 10 is there for the taking for ‘Gamebred’.

UFC 178 is headlined by Jon Jones putting his light heavyweight title on the line against the unbeaten Daniel Cormier at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV on September 27.
