Matt Hughes & Renzo Gracie

Matt Hughes vs Renzo Gracie Superfight Booked for ADCC 2015

A super fight has been announced for ADCC 2015 between two MMA legends, Matt Hughes and Renzo Gracie. ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships are scheduled to take place in Manaus, Brazil in September of 2015.

Renzo first broke the news on twitter.

The former 2-time UFC welterweight champion and UFC Hall of Famer, Matt Hughes will be competing against a familiar foe in Renzo Gracie, the two competed in mixed martial arts back in 2010–when Matt Hughes defeated Renzo Gracie by 3rd round TKO in Abu Dhabi.

Matt Hughes retired from MMA in January of 2013, but has found the itch to compete again, taking this upcoming superfight for ADCC. Hughes has competed in ADCC in the past, defeating Ricardo Almeida and Jeremy Horn and losing to Jeff Monson and Tito Ortiz. Hughes announced that he will training with head coach Ricardo Liborio at American Top Team for this upcoming grappling match.

The legendary 6th degree black belt Renzo Gracie, returns to compete in ADCC following his super fight loss in 2011 to Mario Sperry. Gracie is a 2-time ADCC champion—winning gold in 1998 and 2000 in the 77kg weight class. Renzo’s last professional MMA bout came at the hands of Hughes in the loss at UFC 112.

Both competitors continue to be classy and respectful of one another—as they were leading up to and during their MMA bout.

Hughes vs Gracie will not be the only super fight on the card, as a matchup between Mario Sperry and Ricardo Liborio was announced earlier in the year.
