Two more bouts have been added to the highly anticipated UFC 178 card, as Manny Gamburyan makes his bantamweight debut against Cody Gibson, and lightweights Kevin Lee and Jon Tuck will square off on the undercard. The event is held at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV on September 27, and will be headlined by a UFC light heavyweight title bout between champion Jon Jones and undefeated challenger Daniel Cormier.
Manny Gamburyan has won just two of his last seven bouts, which has led to his decision to drop down to 135lbs. While Gamburyan in no way struggled against the taller fighters in the featherweight division, defeating Cole Miller last August, he will be at less of a disadvantage when fighting at bantamweight. Since returning to the UFC, Gamburyan has gone 2-3 (1 NC), with the no contest being a decision loss overturned due to a failed drug test.
Cody Gibson will look to follow-up from his first UFC victory when coming up against Gamburyan, after knocking Johnny Bedford out after just 38 seconds. While some find the stoppage to be too early, Gibson showed his knockout power in the performance, and at 5’10” he will have a reach advantage over ‘The Anvil’. Gibson won six straight coming into his unsuccessful UFC debut, but in his performance against Aljamain Sterling, ‘The Renegade’ showed his potential.
In the lightweight division, prospects Kevin Lee and Jon Tuck will square off in a fight between two 155-pounders looking for a second straight win. 21 year-old Kevin Lee bounced back from an unsuccessful debut in a fun fight with Al Iaquinta, defeating Jesse Ronson via split decision in July. After winning his UFC debut, Tuck lost a decision to fellow prospect Norman Parke, but followed this up with a third round TKO over Jake Lindsey.
Both of these bouts are expected to feature on the undercard for UFC 178, though the official order has yet to be confirmed.
