Pound-for-Pound top ranked boxer, Congressman, singer, actor, and now part-shareholder of the biggest MMA promotion in Asia, Manny Pacquiao has ventured into the world of mixed martial arts. The Filipino 8-division world boxing champion has purchased a stake in ONE FC in the form of an undisclosed amount of shares, first reported by Yahoo Sports.
Manny Pacquiao is new to the sport of MMA, but that didn’t stop him from partnering up with CEO Victor Cui and the popular ONE FC promotion, especially in his home country of Philippines.
Based in Singapore, ONE FC has made the Philippines a frequent visit on their events schedule—holding four events in three years in Pasay City. The ONE FC rosters boasts an abundance of talented Filipino fighters including the man that calls himself ‘the Manny Pacquaio of MMA’, Eduardo Folayang.
There were was a previous boxing connection that had already emerged inside ONE FC, female boxer turned MMA fighter, former WBO and IBA Super Bantamweight champion, Ana Julaton made her successful transition to MMA, debuting ONE FC 15. Adding to the growing list of Filipinos that are well represented inside ONE FC, and Manny Pacquiao’s expected promotion of ONE FC gives them an even bigger audience and reach.
Known worldwide, Manny Pacquaio now becomes the biggest name to represent and/or be apart shareholder of an MMA promotion, in the world. And one can only assume he will be front and center the next time ONE FC returns to the Philippines, which is scheduled for December 5th. However before that, the 35 year old Pacquiao has to shift his focus to a scheduled boxing match against Chris Algieri on November 22nd in Macau.
