Paige VanZant is finally going to get her shot in the octagon and it’s not against anyone who was previously signed by the UFC.
The promotion reported that VanZant, also known as “12 Gauge” would meet PXC veteran and newest member of the UFC roster Kailin Curran in the UFC’s third women’s strawweight match, Oct. 4, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
This should be a good match. Both fighters have only spent a couple of years in the professional scene yet they have dedicated fan bases. Curran is 3-0, including a win over Invicta FC veteran Kaiyana Rain. She also had successful run as an amateur, going 4-2 in six fights. VanZant is currently 3-1 and comes into the fight with a first-round submission win over Courtney Himes back in April 2013.
Both fighters also come from good gyms. VanZant recently allied herself with Team Alpha Male while Curran trains at Reign MMA, which has produced several great fighters, including Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger and “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Mark Munoz.
If this fight is as much of a barn burner as the first two 115-pound women’s bouts – and something tells me it will – then fans will be in for quite the ride.
