According to Aljamain Sterling’s Twitter Account, “The Funk Master” will return to the Octagon on Oct. 4 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia for UFC Fight Night 54 to face Canada’s own, Mitch Gagnon. Two of the fastest-rising bantamweight prospects looking to enter the rankings with a win in just under two months.
Sterling (10-0) has yet to be defeated in his professional MMA career. He is currently 2-0 in the UFC, coming off an impressive third-round TKO victory over TUF: Brazil contestant, Hugo Viana, back at UFC Fight Night 45. Prior to that performance, the Serra-Longo Fight Team product won his UFC debut, earning a Unanimous Decision over Cody Gibson at UFC 170.
Gagnon (11-2) is on a 3-fight winning streak since he was defeated in his UFC debut against Bryan Caraway in 2012. He followed that loss up with two first-round submission victories over Walel Watson and Dustin Kimura, both of which were on the last two annual Toronto cards. His most recent win came this past April at TUF: Nations Finale, earning his first non-submission win, defeating Tim Gorman by Unanimous Decision.
The UFC’s first appearance in The Maritimes will be headlined by Top 10 UFC Welterweights, Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine. Also, Raphael Assuncao vs. Bryan Caraway, Paige VanZant vs. Kailin Curran, and Nordine Taleb vs. Li Jingiang have all been confirmed for the same event.
