Skelly Replaces Fili, Faces Soriano at UFC Fight Night 50

An injury has forced Andre Fili (13-2) to pull out of his UFC Fight Night 50 bout with Sean Soriano (8-1), according to Chas Skelly (12-1) – who fought this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 49 – will have a quick turnaround and replace “Touchy”.

Soriano will look to earn his first UFC win after losing his promotional debut and first fight back in January to Japanese legend, Tatsuya Kawajiri. He did well in the first round before getting caught early in the second, going unconscious from a Rear Naked Choke. Soriano is a product of the Blackzilians, home to fellow UFC fighters, Rashad Evans, Michael Johnson, and Eddie Alvarez.

Similar to Soriano, Skelly also suffered his first defeat in both the UFC and his career, losing a Majority Decision to Mirsad Bektic back at UFC on FOX 12. He bounced back this past weekend in Tulsa, submitting Tom Niinimaki with a Rear Naked Choke in the opening round. “Scrapper” trains out of Team Takedown, the same gym Jared Rosholt and UFC Welterweight Champion, Johny Hendricks train under.

This fight will take place on Sept. 5 at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut. It has been nearly ten years since the UFC has held an event in The Constitution State. UFC Fight Night 50 will be headlined by a Middleweight Bout between Gegard Mousasi and Jacare Souza. Alistair Overeem vs. Ben Rothwell, Joe Lauzon vs. Michael Chiesa, and a rematch between Charles Oliveira and Nik Lentz are also scheduled to take place on the same card.
