UFC 180: Velasquez vs. Werdum

UFC 180: Velasquez vs. Werdum Full Main Card Announced

UFC 180: Velasquez vs. Werdum will be the UFC’s debut event in Mexico, held at the Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City. The PPV airing on November 15th features a contingent of Hispanic fighters on the card, headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Mexican, Cain Velasquez (13-1) and Brazilian, Fabricio Werdum (18-5-1).

Four other bouts were announced Tuesday, completing the five-fight main card—all of which feature a fighter of Mexican descent.

A welterweight contest between top 15 ranked fighters, #6 Jake Ellenberger (29-8) vs. #11 Kelvin Gastelum (9-0). Ellenberger looks to snap a two-fight losing streak suffering losses to the top two welterweights in the division–Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler. While the 22 year old, TUF 17 middleweight winner, Gastelum looks to remain undefeated against his toughest test yet, currently 4-0 in the UFC.

A lightweight fight between Norman Parke (20-2) and the man he called out following his last victory, Diego Sanchez (25-7). The TUF Smashes lightweight winner, Parke is unbeaten in his last 11 fights and is 4-0-1 in the UFC. The original TUF 1 winner, Sanchez is coming off a controversial victory over Ross Pearson that would’ve likely been his third straight loss.

Top 10 featherweights: #4 Ricardo Lamas vs. #7 Dennis Bermudez. The former title challenger, Lamas bounced back from his title fight loss to Aldo, with a victory over Hacran Dias. Lamas has won 4 of his last 5 fights. Bermudez holds the longest win streak in the UFC’s featherweight division with 7-straight victories in the UFC. Most recently Bermudez submitted top 10 featherweight Clay Guida in the 2nd round.

And rounding out the main card is a bantamweight bout between Erik Perez (14-6) and Marcus Brimage (6-3). Perez has hit a bit of a rough patch recently, losing 2 of his 3 fights. Previously he won his first three UFC bouts and looked the part of a strong prospect. Brimage has lost his last two fights including his bantamweight debut against Russell Doane, last time out. He too had won his first three bouts in the UFC, coming off TUF 14.

In addition to these five fights, both the featherweight and bantamweight finals of TUF: Latin America will be on UFC 180.

Tickets for the event go on sale Wednesday, August 27th.
