A lot of mixed martial arts fanbases tend hero worship their favorite figthers, as if they can do no wrong. However, one group of fans has decided to put their favorite female competitors on the spot.
The Armbar Nation, the official fan group of UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke, has gone and challenged the Four Horsewomen to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
As many of us know, the challenge is a movement to raise money and awareness for the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. This is something that almost every person has participated in, whether it’s an athlete or the average Joe. Although some folks have expressed irritation with their news feed being flooded with videos, the challenge has reportedly raised over $13 million dollars.
Rousey already did the challenge earlier this month, which leaves the other three. Baszler will be fighting undefeated Brazilian prospect Bethe Correia at UFC 177 this weekend. I’m sure Shafir and Duke will either be cornering – or at least watching – “The Queen of Spades,” who could probably use a nice ice bath after her fight.
I see Baszler, Shafir and Duke taking the challenge at some point. Maybe they could get the WWE’s Stephanie McMahon to help them, similar to the way they helped her with her own Ice Bucket Challenge at Summerslam.
