With both fighters coming off Unanimous Decision losses to Ryan Bader, Ovince Saint Preux and Rafael Cavalcante will fight each other next at UFC Fight Night 56, as announced by UFC Brasil’s Twitter Account. Despite their defeats, they remain on the Top 15 UFC Light Heavyweight Rankings.
Earlier in the month, Saint Preux had his 5-fight winning streak snapped by Bader at UFC Fight Night 47. Prior to the loss, he finished Ryan Jimmo, Nikita Krylov, and Cody Donovan. He made his promotional debut at UFC 159 – after Strikeforce merged with the UFC – defeating Gian Villante via Technical Majority Decision after Villante could not continue following an accidental eye poke.
Saint Preux is known for his athleticism, being a defensive end and linebacker for the Tennessee Volunteers. He also played football in high school, along with competing in track and wrestling.
Cavalcante was also a part of the Strikeforce-UFC merge from early 2013. He made his UFC debut in June of last year, suffering a first-round knockout to Thiago Silva. However, he earned his first UFC win a few months later, finishing Igor Pokrajac in just over a minute. Unfortunately, just like Saint Preux, he was defeated by Bader in his next fight at UFC 174.
“Feijao” was a former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion after knocking out Muhammad Lawal back in 2010. He is also known for being a training partner to former UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva.
This Light Heavyweight bout will take place on Nov. 8 in Uberlandia, Brazil at Ginasio Municipal Tacredo Neves. No other fights have been announced for UFC Fight Night 56.
