Yancy Medeiros Chokes Damon Jackson Unconscious with a Guillotine

Opening the UFC 177 main card on PPV is a lightweight matchup between Yancy Medeiros (9-2) and the debuting Legacy FC champion, undefeated Damon Jackson (9-0).

Damon Jackson recently defeated UFC alum Leonard Garcia via submission to claim the Legacy FC featherweight title and earn his eventual call from the UFC. Nicknamed “The Leech” for his ability to keep guys on the mat, Jackson has won 7 of his 9 bouts by submission. He moves up to lightweight on short notice to make his debut.

Yancy Medeiros is still in search of his first official win in the UFC, coming off a loss to Jim Miller at UFC 172. His original knockout win over Yves Edwards was changed to a no-contest after testing positive for marijuana post-fight. The Hawaiian is a training partner of the Diaz brothers and is confident his well rounded MMA skills will prevail over his opponent.

Yancy Medeiros would put on a breakout performance, impressing both on the feet and eventually in the grappling department, handing Damon Jackson his first loss.

Round 1

Medeiros opens with a kick to the body, Jackson pushes forward and lands a right hand on the head of Yancy. A brief exchange of punches, both fighters throwing flurries. Damon doubles up on the right hand and clinches onto Medeiros with a body lock, unable to get the takedown. Yancy reverses for a brief moment against the cage, Jackson back controlling him. Medeiros lands an accidental knee to the groin, after a few to the body, pause in the action.

Medeiros starting to land punches and open up on the feet, a left uppercut causes Jackson’s head to bounce back. Damon attempting to live up to his nickname, but unable to get the takedown. Yancy reverses in an attempt to secure the d’arce choke. A right hook followed by a left hand to the body from Yancy. An exciting first round comes to an end with Yancy Medeiros in control.

Damon Jackson tells his corner in between rounds: “I just woke up”.

Round 2

Medeiros backing Jackson up with his aggression and strikes, but Damon lands a nice head kick to surprise his opponent. Yancy putting together combinations on the feet, causing Jackson to go for the takedown. Yancy defends the takedown and surprises Damon Jackson with a tight guillotine choke, choking him unconscious within a matter of seconds. Jackson attempted to turn his head, but Medeiros held on an the choke became a reverse guillotine.

“That was the plan joe, but Hawaii I love you! I’m coming home,” Medeiros said giving shoutouts to his family followed by the Diaz brothers and Cesar Gracie Academy.
