One athlete prevailed in the Wheaties NEXT athlete vote to become the next athlete to be awarded the prestigious honor of gracing the cover of a Wheaties cereal box. After two months voting, UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis was crowned the winner.

Pettis beat out fellow athletes: Christen Press (USA Soccer), Blake Leeper (Blade Runner), Ryan Dungey (Motocross), Rob Pannell (Lacrosse), in what was described as a fierce battle’ by Wheaties.
Fans were encouraged by Wheaties to log their workouts using ‘MapMyFitness’ and each workout would count as a vote towards the athlete that they have chosen to support.
Pettis becomes the first MMA athlete to grace the cover of Wheaties, which has become an iconic image and privilege for past athletes, who have excelled in their sport. He joins a long list of athletes that include: Lou Gehrig (first athlete to be a Wheaties box), Muhammad Ali, Jesse Owens, Michael Jordan, and Mary Lou Retton.
