Only the third bout has been added to UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as Scott Jorgensen (15-9) will take on Wilson Reis (18-5) in a Flyweight Bout.
It didn’t take long for Jorgensen to get another fight after his bout with Henry Cejudo was cancelled last Friday before UFC 177. Cejudo pulled out due to cramping and nausea during the weight cut. “Young Guns” earned his show purse and win bonus despite not fighting in Sacramento.
Back in June, Jorgensen ended a 3-fight losing streak and saved his spot on the UFC roster, defeating Danny Martinez via Unanimous Decision. The former WEC Bantamweight Title Challenger didn’t have a good start to his career at Flyweight since moving down late last year. However, he has an opportunity to build off his last win.
Prior to his most recent victory, he fought in Brazil against Jussier Formiga. It ended in controversy when Formiga dropped Jorgensen with an accidental headbutt before submitting him with a Rear Naked Choke. Jorgensen has a chance to correct that wrong when he returns to Brazil next month.
Just under two weeks ago, Wilson Reis made his Flyweight debut at UFC Fight Night 49, earning a Unanimous Decision over promotional newcomer, Joby Sanchez. The Brazilian has won six of his last seven and has gone 2-1 since making his UFC debut. He’s mostly known for his work in Bellator.
UFC 179 will take place on Oct. 25 at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho. The card will be headlined by a rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes for the UFC Featherweight Championship. Phil Davis vs. Glover Teixeira is also scheduled to be on the Pay-Per-View.
