It seems as if a light heavyweight fight between Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson is coming closer to fruition. After last week’s call out by Johnson on twitter, Alexander Gustafsson has responded.
Initially reports were that Gustafsson was not willing to take another fight, except for a title shot at the champion. But the former number one contender may have had a change of heart.
Responding to Anthony Johnson on Mikz, Gustafsson posted the following message accepting ‘Rumble’s’ challenge.
“There is no one hiding
Anthony Johnson, there is is no one hiding from anyone here. We are both professional fighters and fighting is what we do for living. I know it is frustrating not getting response when you are challenging someone, therefor [sic], I will not turn you down. I will be fully recovered within a couple of weeks so anytime in January and forward I will be ready to fight YOU.
Now it is up to the UFC to put this fight together. I can’t wait to sign the bout agreement my friend and show you what Battlefield feels like.”
To which an ecstatic Anthony Johnson replied on his facebook:
@AlexTheMauler thank you for accepting this fight. Much respect first and foremost now let’s give the fans what they deserve. A REAL FIGHT! Hope your recovery is going well my friend. See you soon let’s be #BATTLEFIELDREADY
The two top 5 ranked UFC light heavyweights are both vying for the next title shot at UFC champion Jon Jones, if this fight were to become a reality, the winner more than likely would be the next in line after Daniel Cormier.
