What’s Next For Cormier?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Daniel Cormier won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Saturday defeating Josh Barnett by unanimous decision. He used his wrestling and striking to pick apart Barnett for five rounds. He may have one more fight in the UFC, but after he and hopefully the rest of the Strikeforce heavyweights will be dissolved into the UFC. Cormier defeated whom I have ranked as the sixth ranked heavyweight and dominated him. Other than a knee landed by Barnett in the first round the fight was never really in question. He showed he can use his wrestling to defeat some tough guys and [...]

Will DUI Hurt Jones Image?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jon Jones was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Saturday morning after crashing his Bentley into a telephone pole. By now we’ve all heard about it and seen the story, but could this hurt his and the UFC’s image? Jones is supposed to be the new face of the UFC. He’s young, likable and most importantly the champion. The light heavyweight champ had huge hype surrounding him after destroying tough veterans like Stephan Bonnar and Brandon Vera and quickly rose the ranks. He earned his title shot against Shogun Rua and has defended his belt against three former champions. This is [...]

Barao vs. Faber Who’s Got The Edge?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dana White announced on The Ultimate Fighter: Live that Urijah Faber will face Renan Barao for the interim bantamweight title at UFC 148. Cruz tore his ACL last week and looks like he will be out for at least nine months. He hasn’t fought since last October, so an interim title makes sense. Faber has been on a mission since the close decision loss at UFC 132 to win the UFC belt. He goes from facing a very technical fighter in Cruz to an explosive fighter in Barao. The Brazilian, Barao, is a black belt in jiu-jitsu, but Faber won’t [...]

What’s Next For Cowboy?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Donald Cerrone picked apart Jeremy Stephens at UFC on Fuel TV for three rounds. He looked like the elite level lightweight that won four straight fights in 2011. Cerrone used his length and crisp striking to pick apart the powerful Stephens and was able to earn a unanimous decision. The lightweight division is pretty packed up right now with Jim Miller coming off a loss, Nate Diaz waiting for a title shot and Ben Henderson and Frankie Edgar prepared to rematch. Even top lightweights Gray Maynard and Clay Guida are already scheduled to square off. A fight against Anthony Pettis [...]

Strikeforce Grand Prix Finals Does Anyone Care?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

After more than a year the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix is finally going to come to an end. We’ve seen stars get defeated or pulled into the UFC to compete for the title, but does anyone care that it’s about to come to an end? The Grand Prix started with fighters like Alistair Overeem, Fedor, Arlovski, Bigfoot Silva, and Kharitonov, now we have Josh Barnett facing Daniel Cormier. Barnett has been in the tournament from the beginning defeating Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov to reach the finals, but Cormier only had one fight to reach the finals. He defeated Bigfoot [...]

Korean Zombie No. 1 Contender?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Chan Sung Jung defeated Dustin Poirier by d’Arce choke at UFC on Fuel TV Tuesday and looked absolutely amazing. The Korean Zombie was able to get submissions, flying strikes and a ton of huge shots before ultimately using a flying knee to get the submission. He has now put himself in position to face the winner of Aldo-Koch for the featherweight title. The Korean Zombie looked incredible last night, completely different than the brawler he has become known as. He was landing crisp strikes, avoiding takedowns and nearly submitted Poirier three times prior to the d’Arce choke. In his fight [...]

UFC on Fuel TV: Korean Zombie vs. Poirier Main Card Predictions

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

We will see the first Tuesday card in a long time with the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung facing off against Dustin Poirier possibly for the chance to face the winner of Aldo-Koch for the featherweight title. Donald Cerrone vs. Jeremy Stephens This is a great fight. I would even argue it could headline this event based on the name value on Stephens and Cerrone. Both fighters love to stand and bang and we’ve seen how good Stephens can be when he comes off a loss. Cerrone is also coming off a tough loss to Nate Diaz, but didn’t look [...]

Who’s Next For The Featherweight Title?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jose Aldo is going to fight Eric Koch at UFC 149, but after that fight the featherweight division is very blurry. Aldo has run through his opponents, most recently Chad Mendes, and Koch is really the last fight for him. He could face Hatsu Hioki if Hioki defeats Lamas, but that may be the last fight for Aldo. Chan Sung Jung and Dustin Poirier aren’t ready for a title shot, but may be thrust into that shot if no one steps up to fight Aldo. The most interesting fight for Aldo at featherweight is Frankie Edgar, but Edgar still wants [...]

Diaz Shows He Still Doesn’t Get It

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Nick Diaz was supposed to fight Braulio Estima in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Superfight Saturday, but did not show up. This is just another joke in the career of Nick Diaz. He has shown a constant lack of professionalism throughout his MMA career and now it seems he has brought that over to jiu-jitsu. This was a fight fans were looking forward to. It wasn’t just jiu-jitsu fans, but MMA fans and Diaz fans. The fact that he didn’t show up again shows that he doesn’t get it. He was already suspended for a year from MMA due to a failed [...]

Interim Champ at Bantamweight?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the announcement that Dominick Cruz tore his ACL, we not only have The Ultimate Fighter confusion, but there is also the confusion now of the bantamweight division and UFC 148. Faber has already stated that he will remain on the card, which is good news, because Boetsch-Bisping was moved off UFC 148 because it needed a bigger spotlight. If Faber would have pulled out too, it would have been a huge blow to the overall card. Luckily for Faber and the UFC, Renan Barao is fighting on the UFC 148 card. He looks like he may be the best [...]
