A Rory MacDonald Hypothetical

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Rory MacDonald showed at UFC 145 that he is definitely ready for a big name, so let’s throw out a hypothetical. We already saw MacDonald throw Nate Diaz around like a rag doll, but what about Nick Diaz? How would the young talent fair against the elder Diaz? Obviously Nick is the more well rounded of the two. He has better stand up and a better resume than Nick, but would the outcome be any different? Throughout MacDonald’s win against Che Mills Joe Rogan explained that he was a true mixed martial artist. He didn’t have a wrestling or boxing [...]

Where Does Evans Go?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

The grudge is finally over. Rashad Evans lost a pretty lopsided decision at UFC 145 to Jon Jones and it wasn’t even close. After all the hype and trash talk prior to the event, Evans was dominated on the feet against Jones, who didn’t look like he was fighting at his best. What’s next for Rashad?

What We Learned From UFC 145

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

UFC 145 is finished from Atlanta and while we saw some surprises, ultimately Jon Jones is still the champion in the light heavyweight division. What We Learned from Torres-McDonald: It looks like Miguel Torres is on the downside of his career. He’s 1-2 in his last three and is looking as more of a gatekeeper rather than a top contender. The former WEC 135 pound champ is no sliding down hill quick. Michael McDonald is for real. He was better at the stand up and definitely had the power to finish. McDonald sucked Torres into a brawl and that was [...]

UFC 145 Main Card Predictions

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

UFC 145 takes place tonight from Atlanta at 10 pm. The main event is Jones vs. Evans and features a couple of high level prospects. Below are the main card predictions. Mark Bocek vs. John Alessio The first card on this bout is veteran against new comer. This is Alessio’s third fight at lightweight and first in the UFC since a loss to Diego Sanchez. He’s coming in to face Bocek on less than three weeks notice so will be at a disadvantage. Look for Bocek to control Alessio on the ground and grind out a decision. Prediction: Bocek via [...]

UFC 145 Main Event: Jon Jones vs Rashad Evans

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

This Saturday will see Champion John “Bones” Jones face-off against former champion and team mate Rashad Evans. The UFC have released one final promotional video before the fight. Not that this fight needs much promotion given the bad blood between these two — you can watch the video here . Here’s the thing , it seems to me that “Bones” Jones has become very cocky since winning the strap against Shogan Rua at UFC 128. There is no problem with a fighter being cocky, in fact it is to be expected, after all he is the champion. You have to go [...]

Breaking Down Bellator 66 Main Event

AUTHOR: | IN: Bellator, MMA, Shinya Aoki | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tomorrow night former Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie (22-3) will take on Japanese star Shinya Aoki (30-5-2 1NC) for the second time.  The first time the two stand outs met was back at Dynamite!! 2008 in which Aoki was victorious, winning by heel hook in the first round. This is one of the biggest fights this month and it will be interesting to watch if they outcome will be any different this time round. Alvarez needs to keep on the outside, and keep the fight standing. The worst possible outcome for Alvarez is if he allows Aoki to pull guard [...]

Could the UFC Have NFL Injury Issues?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

In the past couple years we’ve seen the NFL really try to crack down on concussion issue. The league has done everything from including outside doctors to putting people in the booth to check for head injuries, but it may have been too late. Over 1,000 former players are suing the NFL for negligence of head injuries. Is this a problem we could eventually see in the UFC? Football is described as a collision sport, MMA as a combat sport and knockouts are part of the sport. Obviously being knocked unconscious isn’t going to help with a concussion, but the [...]

Is Jones-Evans The Biggest Main Event Ever?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Throughout the history of the UFC we’ve seen many heated rivalries. There’s been Shamrock-Ortiz, Liddell-Ortiz, Evans-Jackson and so on, but this might be the biggest of all, Jon Jones against Rashad Evans. Evans and Jones are former training partners and friends who over the past two years have started to actually hate each other. It all started when Jones earned a title shot due to an injury to his training partner, Evans. If you believe what Evans has said, he never wanted Jones to join Jackson’s MMA because he was worried that Jones would become champ and wanted to defeat [...]

The Ideal Promotion-Media Relationship?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC, Zuffa | COMMENTS: None Yet

We all know that relationships can be hard, the classic line “can’t live with them, can’t live without them” comes to mind. Relationships have to be worked at and developed, there are good times and bad. Although this sounds like marriage counselling it is not. The UFC just like any other company selling a product needs to promote that product. Even if the UFC is the biggest MMA promotion in the world everyone in the office still rules the daily risk that they will fade into obscurity. To garner the level of promotion needed the brand needs to constantly be exposed on a number [...]

The Ever Improving Brian Stann

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brian Stann got back on track at UFC on Fuel TV 2 April 14, defeating Alessio Sakara by knockout. He also had one of the classiest moves ever in a fight by immediately stopping to call over the referee when he realized Sakara was out. Stann was also able to show his improving clinch game, repeatedly kneeing Sakara before using short elbows on the ground to finish him. It’s by far one of the best performances from Brian Stann and it seems he may be on the path towards contendership after a tough loss to Chael Sonnen. He has gone [...]
